Black Hawk Trail

Black Hawk Trail is a hillside spec home that leans hard on shape. The living room ends in a full gable of glass, the deck elevation folds completely open, and there is a trapezoid unit tucked under the rafters cut to the exact roof angle. None of those are catalog sizes.

Three systems do the work, and the split is deliberate. The big living room structure is curtain wall, because a span that tall needs a mullion-and-transom grid rather than a window frame. The deck opening is a bifold, so the whole elevation stacks to one side instead of leaving a fixed panel in the middle. Everything else is MasterLine 8 with a nailing flange, which fastens straight into the stud wall the way an American window does - no bracket sets, no custom install detail for the framing crew to learn.

That last point is what makes a package like this buildable on a US site. The GC installs the punched windows on a familiar detail, and the two structural pieces - curtain wall and bifold - are the only openings that need special attention. All of it arrives in one finish, so the gable, the bifold, and the bedroom windows match at the sightline.

These photos were taken with the frame still open: aluminum in, timber exposed, cladding still to come. The iron grey against raw framing is a fair preview of how the finished elevations will read.
