Everything you need to know about sourcing European windows for US projects - from systems and pricing to logistics and installation.
About Windows Guy
Who is Windows Guy?
+
Windows Guy is the personal brand of Kai Adamek - an independent agent specializing in sourcing premium European aluminum windows and doors for US construction projects. I'm not tied to any single manufacturer. I work for you, matching the right European factory to your project based on specs, budget, and timeline.
Are you a manufacturer or distributor?
+
Neither. I'm an independent agent - a manufacturer-neutral sourcing partner. I have direct relationships with 15+ European manufacturers (Reynaers, Aluprof, Schüco, and others) and match the best factory to your specific project. This means competitive pricing without brand lock-in.
What makes you different from other European window suppliers?
+
Three things: (1) I'm manufacturer-independent - I compare across multiple system providers to find the best fit. (2) I deliver project feedback in 24h and a full quote in 48h, versus the industry-standard 5–7 days. (3) You work with one person from spec to delivery - no departments, no hand-offs. I personally manage every project.
Who are your typical clients?
+
I work primarily with general contractors, spec home builders, architects, and developers on US projects with European window budgets of $45,000–$200,000+. My clients are typically building luxury custom homes, high-end spec homes, or commercial/multifamily projects that require premium European fenestration.
What markets do you serve?
+
I serve all 50 US states. Since all logistics are handled DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to your job site, geography is not a limitation. Current focus areas include the East Coast, Texas, and California - but I deliver anywhere in the country.
Products & Systems
What window systems can you source?
+
I source the full range of European aluminum window systems: tilt-and-turn windows, casement windows, fixed structural glazing, awning windows, lift-and-slide doors, multi-slide doors, bi-folding doors, pivot doors, entrance doors, and curtain wall/façade systems. Primary system providers include Reynaers, Aluprof, Schüco, and others.
Do you only work with aluminum systems?
+
Aluminum is my core expertise, but I can also source uPVC systems (Aluplast, Salamander), wood-aluminum composite, and other European systems through my manufacturer network. Everything is coordinated under one point of contact - you don't need to manage multiple suppliers.
What glazing options are available?
+
European manufacturers offer extensive glazing options: double or triple glazing (triple is standard for high-performance builds), tempered safety glass, laminated security glass, acoustic glass for urban locations, solar-control coatings, and specialized UV glass. Exact specifications are matched to your climate zone and project requirements.
What are typical thermal performance values (U-factor)?
+
For typical high-performance, triple-glazed European aluminum configurations, expect a U-factor of approximately 0.18 - significantly exceeding most US energy codes. This makes European systems ideal for cold climates, Passive House builds, and energy-conscious projects. Exact values depend on the specific system and glass package selected.
Can you source oversized windows and sliding doors?
+
Yes. European manufacturers regularly produce large-format architectural glazing - floor-to-ceiling lift-and-slide doors, ultra-slim minimalist systems (like Reynaers Hi-Finity), and custom structural glazing. Maximum feasible sizes are confirmed during the engineering review based on wind loads, glass weight, and structural requirements.
What finish options are available?
+
Full RAL color palette, anodized finishes, textured matte powder coatings, dual-color options (different colors inside and outside), and steel-look finishes. All coatings from quality manufacturers carry Qualicoat and Qualanod certifications for long-lasting UV resistance and corrosion protection.
European vs US Windows
What makes European aluminum windows different from US products?
+
The biggest difference: 'custom' is standard in Europe. European windows offer total design flexibility without extreme upcharges. Additional advantages include superior thermal performance with advanced thermal breaks and standard triple glazing, thicker profile walls, advanced multi-point locking hardware, and tilt-and-turn functionality that's standard (not premium).
Can European windows be installed in standard US wood-frame construction?
+
Absolutely. European manufacturers produce windows with an integrated nailing flange (nailing fin) specifically designed for seamless integration into standard US wood-frame builds. This is a common and well-tested installation method across hundreds of US projects.
What is tilt-and-turn functionality and why does it matter?
+
Tilt-and-turn is the European standard window operation. Unlike US double-hung or casement windows, tilt-and-turn offers two modes: 'tilt' for secure, rain-resistant ventilation (the top tilts inward) and 'turn' for full inward opening, providing easy cleaning and maximum airflow. It's standard on European systems - not a premium upgrade.
How does thermal performance compare to US energy codes?
+
European high-performance configurations significantly exceed most US energy codes. Triple glazing is standard, and typical configurations achieve a U-factor of approximately 0.18 - making them highly competitive for cold, extreme, or demanding climates across North America.
Why is sourcing from Europe more cost-effective than US distributors?
+
By working with me directly, you eliminate distributor markups. I negotiate factory-direct pricing across 15+ manufacturers and provide DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) quotes that include production, ocean freight, US import duties, and customs clearance - one transparent landed cost with no surprises.
Process & Quoting
How does the quoting process work?
+
Send me your window schedule (PDF, Excel, or architectural drawings). I analyze your requirements, recommend optimal systems across multiple providers, and deliver initial project feedback within 24 hours and a detailed, itemized quote within 48 hours. The quote includes a fully transparent breakdown of all costs.
What information do you need to prepare a quote?
+
A window schedule is ideal. I'll also need: project location (for climate, wind zone, and shipping), wall type (wood frame vs. masonry), target thermal performance, preferred operation types (tilt-and-turn, sliding, fixed), and any code requirements. If you don't have a full schedule yet, I can provide budget estimates from preliminary dimensions.
How fast do you deliver quotes?
+
Project feedback within 24 hours, full quote within 48 hours - compared to the industry standard of 5–7 days. Speed is a core part of my service. The first quote wins 70% of the time in this industry, and I make sure you get it first.
What does a typical project timeline look like?
+
Quote: 48 hours. Revisions and approval: collaborative process (typically 1–2 weeks). Shop drawings: prepared upon deposit. Production: approximately 8 weeks. Ocean shipping to US: 5–8 weeks depending on port and site location. Total from order to delivery: roughly 4–5 months.
What payment terms are typical?
+
Standard terms are 50% deposit upon order placement and 50% before shipping. Factory accounts accept bank wire transfers in USD - no foreign exchange fees. Some manufacturers offer a 3% discount for 100% upfront payment.
Can orders be split into phases?
+
Yes. For large-scale developments, I coordinate split production and staggered shipping aligned with your construction schedule and site storage capacity.
Shipping & Logistics
Do you handle shipping to the US?
+
Yes - end to end. My standard is DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to your job site. I coordinate ocean freight, customs clearance, import duties, and last-mile delivery. You receive one landed cost with zero logistics headaches.
How are windows packed for international transport?
+
Heavy-duty, custom-built wooden A-frame crates engineered for transoceanic shipping. Products are secured, padded, and strapped to prevent any movement during transit. I also optimize container loading (20ft or 40ft) to reduce freight costs.
What happens if products arrive damaged?
+
All international shipments are fully insured. While damage is extremely rare due to robust crating, replacement parts or glass units are expedited immediately to keep your project on schedule. I manage the entire claims process.
How are US import tariffs handled?
+
Under DDP terms, all US import tariffs, duties, and customs clearance are handled by me and my logistics partners. The landed cost in your quote is the cost you pay - no hidden fees, no surprises at the port.
Installation & Support
Do you provide installation services?
+
I'm a sourcing agent, not an installer. Installation is handled by your local general contractor or professional glazier. I provide detailed shop drawings, technical documentation, and remote support (video calls, phone, email) to ensure a flawless installation - even if your crew hasn't worked with European systems before.
How do you support US crews unfamiliar with European systems?
+
I provide digital installation manuals, comprehensive project-specific shop drawings, and direct remote support via video calls. European tilt-and-turn systems are intuitive once you understand the hardware - most crews adapt within the first few units.
What warranty coverage is typical?
+
Quality European manufacturers offer industry-leading warranties: up to 20 years on aluminum profiles, with separate coverage for hardware, finishes, and glass units. Exact warranty terms depend on the manufacturer and project scope - I provide a clear written breakdown with every order.
What if a glass unit breaks years after installation?
+
I maintain detailed records of every project's glass specifications and dimensions, allowing manufacturers to produce an exact replacement match. Replacement glass is shipped directly to your site. I remain your point of contact for the life of the project.
What are the long-term maintenance requirements?
+
European aluminum windows are engineered for minimal maintenance. Periodic cleaning, hardware lubrication, and gasket inspection are typically all that's needed. I provide technical documentation and remain available for ongoing support throughout the life of the building.
